Trivia

12 May 2007 by kristarella

A couple of bits of trivia that I came across this week: According to this website cocoa beans are from the tree Theobroma cacao. Theobroma is Greek for ‘food of the gods’. The ancient Aztecs honoured the cacao tree and used its beans as a form of currency. The tree was a source of strength […]

Thursday Thirteen #48

10 May 2007 by kristarella

Since I haven’t posted much recently: Thirteen things I’ve been doing. 1. I’ve been playing with 3D modeling programs, Blender and Cinema 4D, and I’m going to install k-3D to see what that’s like. I’ve uploaded some of my creations on Deviant Art. 2. Karate has been going well. I now have my blue belt, […]

Facebook

1 May 2007 by kristarella

It’s a little bit funny… not this feeling inside, but these emails I keep getting. A couple of weeks ago my cousin must have joined Facebook and invited me as a “friend”. I’m not sure exactly because I haven’t let it into my email, but I think it scans your address book and invites people […]

WebCT + Proteins = crap

9 April 2007 by kristarella

My university uses a system called WebCT for online learning, distribution of notes, assignments and information, as well as providing a place for discussion. They do provide all these things in paper form when you turn up to lectures and labs as well (not everyone prints out lecture notes for you, some do). We had […]

Flash

27 December 2005 by kristarella

Oh my goodness! My morning was eaten up by capitalism, laziness and a really bad idea. I will explain in the reverse order… Bad idea Flash animation! Damn that Macromedia! They come out and dominate the internet with their cute animations and everyone thinks it’s great. They go around and send their e-cards and make […]

Massive day at the #gkrkarate State Titles yesterd Massive day at the #gkrkarate State Titles yesterday. Overall the day ran really smoothly; big congrats to competitors and officials!
No medals for me, but I thought I did an excellent performance of Bassai dai, so I can’t ask more from myself than that 🖤

Today I went to the Steve McCurry Icons exhibit: i Today I went to the Steve McCurry Icons exhibit: iconic photos by a photo journalist spanning over 40 years. It was beautiful and moving. It is being shown in Wharf 2/3 at Dawes Point (East of Circular Quay), and the building has been refurbished wonderfully: a gorgeous juxtaposition of glass, mirrors, and metal with the original wood. It was an excellent location for this exhibit, which showed so many extraordinary events, but also what is ordinary across several cultures, and what makes us all the same as humans.I really liked how the exhibit told related stories, sometimes from the same locations, sometimes across countries.Thank you @stevemccurryofficial @stevemccurryicons for an amazing display!#stevemccurryicons #photography #photographyexhibition
Saw @steph.t.gray in Les Mis this afternoon! Lovel Saw @steph.t.gray in Les Mis this afternoon! Lovely to spend the afternoon with Karen and Jo, and do something a bit different. I’ve never seen Les Mis before, but have heard some of the songs. Éponine’s On My Own in this production was much better than what I’ve seen on YouTube; I really liked it. The set design was really clever and the performances and choreography great too.
I’ve just left Mark at his second day of daycare I’ve just left Mark at his second day of daycare and it was harder than last week. He probably remembered I was going to go, and I also tried to say goodbye, whereas last week I snuck off while he was distracted. He was crying, and I feel awful. I hope he’s stopped crying now (he usually would have in crèche or with a babysitter). So here’s a bit of a dump of recent photos reminding me that he’s usually pretty happy 🥰#marksymonds
