The power supply on my computer was the cause of everything going south for the (end of) winter. I now have a working PSU and Kubuntu is sweet! I love learning new things, I feel very computer nerdy. :nerd:
I finally have a colour scheme that I can cope with, the original blue was far too bright. I found a great site for colour schemes and backgrounds and screen savers for KDE-Desktops; it’s called KDE-Look.
I took me half an hour to figure out how to mount a folder on my desktop but I finally got it (with some help from the net and hubby). Lucky it’s the only one I want to mount so far. It’s all my old files that I haven’t sorted through yet so I figured I’d just leave them on the other networked computer, but with easy access from mine.
Kubuntu came with an RSS reader called Akregator, so I figured I’d try that out for reading blogs and news and such. Not that Sage wasn’t good, I really liked its layout. I had to install Sage to export my feed list but I figured the fewer unnecessary extensions the better, don’t want Firefox getting sluggish. I’m still using Firefox and Thunderbird. I had backed up both of them using MozBackup but it’s for Windows and doesn’t run on Linux! Oh well. I retrieved my bookmarks so that’s the main thing. I’ve downloaded some of my extensions, I’ll get the rest in time.
I’m so tired! We went to a karate seminar today so that was physically and mentally tiring. For sparring I was paired up with a woman who was afraid of fists and kept telling me about how she’d been hit in the face and gotten a broken nose and a split lip (no scars). She was tired and she wasn’t getting the exercise that we were doing correct so she got annoyed at herself and mentally gave up. She kept saying how she didn’t want to do it. It was a bit sad at first and then it was just annoying because I couldn’t practise properly if she didn’t. What’s even more sad is that I used to be like that… maybe that’s actually a happy thing because I’m not like that any more, I’ve learnt to shrug it off and laugh at myself. Yay for me! I learnt a new kata today, Basai Dai, so double yay!
Next thing I want to figure out is my FTP software, I think it’s called gFTP. I need to update my sidebar and I want to install a plugin on my photoblog to make photobloging easier. It’s called Yet Another Photoblog (YAPB) (I’m too lazy to put the link, you can Google it, I’ll link to it when I’ve started using it). It adds an image upload feature with automatic thumbnailing and automatically gets the EXIF data. Alas, it might be a big changeover if I have to redo all of my previous posts. I think that I don’t have to but I get a bit obsessive when it comes to these things and I want everything to be the same. :sheepish:
Tomorrow we have MIL’s 50th birthday party. Step-FIL had knee surgery recently so we’re needed to help with setting up. I hope it’s a nice and not too stressful day. In-law family stuff always stresses me a bit, I feel like I need to live up to expectations and not mess up. Ugh, I hope I get over those feelings soon!

I love the post title and for some reason it just me chuckle… you’ve used that before in the past. I think it’s because I can just hear you say it in an Australian accent which I think is great. (wish I had one!) 🙂
So does MS Office run on Linux? How would you do your word processing etc.?

I think I switched the words cool and sweet around before. I’m sure it would be funny to hear me say it.
I don’t know how MS Office would run but Open Office is in the bundle and I’ve only checked out the Word Processor so far (there’s also spreadsheet, presentation and database) but it seems to be compatible with MS, you can save as MS Word docs, fror different year versions even. If it wasn’t compatible I would have used Writely, which by the way I’ve used a couple of times. I kind of like it.

You, my dear friend, are a true-blue nerd. Unless you are already a member of a similar organisation, I would like to invite you to the Hornsby Chapter of the Australian Association of Cool Nerds, of which I, Timmeh, am the chairman.

Hey! Cool! Thanks Timmeh…
Do you think this association might sometimes coincide with YESHUA
(Yum-cha Eating Society of Hornsby (Unlimited Appetites))?
I will definitely join if the effort required is that which I’m already doing :nerd:
