In amongst a bunch of reading a little while ago I came across the concept of the 365 project.
I suppose anyone could do one for anything, but the ones I’ve seen have been photography projects. Take one photo everyday for one year. Some projects have rules such as a self-portrait every day, or post your photos on your blog every day.
I’ve decided to do my own.
Objective
Take a photo every day for a year. This is a leap year so it’ll actually be 366 days and 366 photos. I started yesterday, 28th February and I’ll finish next February.
The purpose is to try to improve my photography through practice and experimentation.
Rules
- I must take at least one photo per day.
- It can be on any camera, my d50, mobile phone, iSight… whatever.
- Manipulation, compilation and montage is allowed.
- Try to take photos that practice learning or represent the day, not for the sake of it.
- I’ll post them on my photoblog, not necessarily every day, but eventually I’ll post one for every day.
Other sites
An article on Photojojo describes the concept of the project and gives some tips on doing one. There’s a Flickr group for 365 self-portraits.
I quite like these other 365 blogs that I found: abashed the devil stood and 365 Days Photo Project.
I’d hoped to start before I went to America. I did take photos every day that I was there, but I didn’t take any when I got home. So here it is, the first photo of my 365 project:
Update 11 Apr ’08: I’m not giving up on this project, but it’s on hold for now. It turned out to be more difficult than expected. Partly because my memory was not so hot (might need to set an alarm to remind me every afternoon), I couldn’t take my camera out with me every day (I would like to get a suitable bag so I can, maybe the Crumpler Sinking Barge), too often I was taking photos just for the sake of it, and I got behind on editing and posting (which I don’t really have time to catch up on now). I’ll let you know when I resume this project.

Is that you?
That’s a very cute picture of you everywhere! There’s even one hiding by the side of the couch! And I love the amount of light that gets into your living room 😀

Where’d you get the clones???
I want some too…they can do my homework 😛

Pelf – Yup it’s me! Thanks 🙂
Heh, I had the curtains open that day… doesn’t always happen 😛
Jus – The clones are just an illusion, they only do imaginary homework 😛
I made this one after reading this tutorial.

That is really cool! You should set up a side blog to post the picture each day! Good luck with it!

Thanks Jacob 🙂
That’s a good idea, would probably be pretty easy to do via RSS or something. I’ll look into it.

Hehehe, I did a similar thing with my cat in my beginning Photoshop class! Pretty corny now that I look at it again, but it’s fun and most people are pretty wowed by it 🙂
