My own 365 (+1) Project

In amongst a bunch of reading a little while ago I came across the concept of the 365 project.

I suppose anyone could do one for anything, but the ones I’ve seen have been photography projects. Take one photo everyday for one year. Some projects have rules such as a self-portrait every day, or post your photos on your blog every day.

I’ve decided to do my own.

Objective

Take a photo every day for a year. This is a leap year so it’ll actually be 366 days and 366 photos. I started yesterday, 28th February and I’ll finish next February.

The purpose is to try to improve my photography through practice and experimentation.

Rules

• I must take at least one photo per day.
• It can be on any camera, my d50, mobile phone, iSight… whatever.
• Manipulation, compilation and montage is allowed.
• Try to take photos that practice learning or represent the day, not for the sake of it.
• I’ll post them on my photoblog, not necessarily every day, but eventually I’ll post one for every day.

I’d hoped to start before I went to America. I did take photos every day that I was there, but I didn’t take any when I got home. So here it is, the first photo of my 365 project:

Update 11 Apr ’08: I’m not giving up on this project, but it’s on hold for now. It turned out to be more difficult than expected. Partly because my memory was not so hot (might need to set an alarm to remind me every afternoon), I couldn’t take my camera out with me every day (I would like to get a suitable bag so I can, maybe the Crumpler Sinking Barge), too often I was taking photos just for the sake of it, and I got behind on editing and posting (which I don’t really have time to catch up on now). I’ll let you know when I resume this project.
