Due to a few recent events, including not getting paid for six weeks and having $700 worth of stuff stolen, I’ve decided to keep a closer watch on how I spend my money. I’m
not promising to be totally stingy, but just being aware of things should help in some way.
After much searching I decided the best freely available program for my purposes is Cashbox. It’s fairly simple. You can create multiple accounts, label transactions (which helps to visualise the main places or purposes where you earn and spend money) and you can balance accounts (I haven’t done that yet). I’ve started from when I last got paid and have tracked my spendings for the last week. So far I’ve accounted for all the cash I’ve withdrawn and have spent or remains in my wallet.
Cashbox also imports Quicken files, if that’s of interest to you.

Hi Kristarella,
I was poking around the net and found this post, I found a really great site for helping me save money it’s here: http://mozo.com.au/personal-loans
It’s helped me out heaps, they have this cool calculator that shows you how much you wast on vices each year like coffee and cigarettes 🙂
Sorry to hear you had stuff stolen from you that sucks when that happens, I also was reading that you love Buffy 🙂 If you like Joss Whedon check out his new series Doll House it’s really good!

You can back up all the data in Cashbox at any time. Simply make a copy of ~/Library/Application Support/Cashbox (where ~ is your home folder). You can do this as frequently as you like.
