We had an enormous thunderstorm here a couple of hours ago. I squealed a couple of times in response to the loud thunder. I’m not necessarily easily scared or surprised, it was LOUD! I tried to get some photos of raindrops, I didn’t try to get the lightning, I didn’t have the right angles or enough shelter.
I’ve spent the last few days, among other things, making a new blog template. I’ve finally got it just the way I want it in Firefox. I took some browsershots of my test site and found that it looks a bit nasty in Internet Explorer 5 and 6. 5 has things right out of whack but I’m not too worried about that, I’m more worried about 5 and 6 not coping with transparency in PNG images and making it all white. I knew that IE did something silly with transparency… I should have known better. It was just the easiest way to do the page because it has a colour gradient so I didn’t want to give the little headings flat colour backgrounds.
I found one fix to this problem. It’s some javascript that does something with the PNG images and only affects IE. It seems cool but I think it would be easier for me to first try just converting the images to GIFs. Most of them are just fancy font, one colour. There is some nice transparency stuff happening elsewhere but for the less than 20% of my readers that use IE 5 or 6 it will probably still be pretty enough. If you are one of those people I recommend downloading Firefox now! If you really are afraid to change even IE 7 is better than earlier versions (I really only base that on the fact that it handles PNGs and can actually line stuff up properly!).
The rest of the browsers are fine… I don’t know if this post made sense. I’m tired, I’d better go to bed or something.
