Damn, this week has been a bit of a nightmare. Thus my lack of posting for which I apologise.
I started honours this week. It started with a bunch of seminars and workshops on thesis writing and computer skills and safety. I was dead scared of starting honours, it felt like so much pressure and hard work. I’d hoped that once we started the seminars my fears would be alleviated. They weren’t! It still sounds like damn hard work. I’ve managed to shake the feeling of dread in my stomach for now – that’s something at least!
On top of the fear I’ve also had five different ailments in the last week. Yes, five! Some of them are not appropriate to discuss, but they included the flu and a freaky eye thing in which the muscles controlling my eyeballs were too sore to move my eyes left, right, up or down.
The computer skills workshop was a freakin’ joke! It was supposed to be Microsoft Word for honours, Excel for honours, Endnote for honours. The Word one was actually kind of useful – I managed to find every feature (that would make thesis writing in Word easier) in iWork’s Pages so I’m convinced there’s no need for me to buy Office 2008. The Excel workshop was ridiculous. It was “for honours” it was for beginners. He went on an on showing us features that just wouldn’t be at all useful for biology honours. Then the Endnote thing took 15 minutes because the Word and Excel guy took so long.
All that with a raging fever!
Things can only get better (I hope)!
