When I was much younger and smaller than I am now I thought that the pots and pans made the stove hot. I thought that putting the pot on the plate caused heat and cooking to happen.
One evening while Mum was cooking dinner I had the urge to touch a hot plate to see if it was hot (I’m guessing that I didn’t call it a ‘hot plate’ when I was little, otherwise I might have connected the dots earlier). I knew I couldn’t touch a pot while it was on there so I told Mum not to put the pot on the stove. She didn’t hear me and put the pot down, so I waited until she took the pot off and I put my hand down flat on the hot plate.
There was indeed much surprise, shock and crying. I think I got over it quickly though, as children tend to do. Now I know the plate (stove) is the one that makes the pot hot!
