I’ve never really been into the social bookmarking scene. I have a del.icio.us account that I used regularly for a short time and haven’t really used since.
Recently I installed madKast, but I was disappointed when it messed up my blog theme. I gave it several weeks while I waited for a reply to my email(s) and maybe to see what the analytics had to offer, but I got neither so I’ve removed it. I have noticed that lots of blogs have shortcuts to bookmarking via del.icio.us, StumbleUpon, Digg and others and I thought some of the mechanisms for doing so were quite spiffy and not too intrusive. The plugins that I’ve seen in particular are Share This and Sociable. Both of which look crap on my blog! Sociable icons get highlighted in red, which is just because of my css and could be fixed, but it also does this scary php errors thing on the admin page whenever you stray away from the default settings. Share This doesn’t seem to line up the icon and link properly, so the link text overlaps the icon. The names of the sites also won’t appear next to the icons in Share This and I can’t figure out how to fix it.
Disappointing…
Update: As you can probably see I got Sociable to work. It’s quite cute. 🙂

nice icons from sociable. I think you couldn’t get the icons to appear next to the Share It icon because you didn’t put “” in the footer. (hope that php code shows up!)
The Foo says
ok the code didn’t show up… lets try this:
?php akst_share_form(); ?
I took out the at the beginning and end.

Oh, you’re right! I assumed that my footer had a wp_footer call, but it doesn’t! So either wp_footer or askt_share_form needs to be put in there. Woops! I guess I’ll add that in for future use 🙂

Actually, I do have the wp_footer call there so that doesn’t seem to be the problem 🙁
Maybe it is a css problem.

Hi Kristarella,
I’ve already followed the excellent advice you gave in another post about how to customize the header & footer of the Copyblogger theme. Thanks for the tips!
I recently added the Sociable plugin and am also experiencing the problem of the icons being highlighted/underlined in red (feel free to check it out for yourself on my site). If it’s not too much trouble may I ask how you fixed it? 😀
kristarella says
No worries, Roastfrog.
I added the following CSS to the bottom of custom.css.
.custom .sociable ul li a {border:none;}
.custom .sociable ul li a:hover {border:none; background:none;}

Thanks so much for the tip! Works a treat! :party:
Take care
