I had an appointment to check out Fernwood women’s gym at 10am this morning. Nothing like an appointment to make you get out of bed at a reasonable hour after a bad night lacking in sleep. It was so hot last night, I barely slept during the wee hours. I had things I wanted to do before going out though and it’s a nice feeling, getting up and getting things done.
On the way out of the shopping centre there are gates that you have to insert your parking ticket to open. They stay open until about 1pm because the first four hours of parking are free and the shops only open at 9am. The girl in front of me didn’t have her ticket ready so she stopped at the gate for quite some time looking for it to put it in the machine. I gave the horn a light beep hoping that she would notice the gate was open. I wasn’t trying to be impatient or nasty, just trying to save us some time, some her the bother of finding the ticket. Instead she got annoyed, didn’t even notice the gate was open and then continued down the ramp only to put her left indicator on. You can’t turn left from that lane so she had to wait for all the cars to exit before she could move over, by which time we nearly missed the lights. Now I wasn’t in a hurry but I do like it when things keep moving. It’s also quite a worry that she was so much on autopilot she never noticed the gate was open and didn’t think where she had to go next. Think about what you’re doing when you’re driving! It’s a one and a half tonne hunk of metal that you’re hurtling down the road – pay attention!
As I approached my house I saw the smoke billowing from the Mt Ku-ring-gai fires. I took a couple of photos but I might go down and see if I can get some better ones. I hope the smoke means that it’s getting wet and going out and not that it’s burning more and getting worse.
