“Don’t forget to wash behind your ears!”
Have you ever heard someone say that when you set off to have a shower or a bath? My Dad used to say that to me sometimes, my mum might have too and I never really knew what they meant. I thought it was some saying with a hidden meaning or an ‘in’ joke, like “He’s not the messiah, he’s just a very naughty boy!” That was something else my Dad used to say, it was funny but I didn’t really get it because I hadn’t seen Life of Brian. So one day I asked him what he meant by saying “Don’t forget to wash behind your ears.” He said that was all he meant, not to forget to wash behind my ears.
I suppose one might forget to specifically wash behind ears because you figure the area gets washed in the the general washing and rinsing process. I’m sure some soap and shampoo and water get back there. It’s just like I don’t go out of my way to wash or dry my toes, I’ve never had many foot problems so I figure a general rub with soap and rinse of my feet is good enough. Well, I don’t know how or when or why but I seem to have a rash behind my ear. It’s a bit itchy and there’s some scattered little bumps. It’s a bit yucky. I rubbed it down with metho and put hydrocortisone cream on there. I figured that should clean and help heal it.
Moral of the story? Don’t forget to wash behind your ears!
