I spent the last couple of days redesigning my homepage. I thought I might actually use the site and put some things on there, albeit gradually. I wanted to figure out how to do those spiffy sliding menus at the top which I did and I learnt that the order of CSS matters! a:visited overwrites a:hover so if visited comes after hover in the css then hovering over a link you’ve been to might not do anything.
Another thing I learnt was that footers don’t work very well if your content is less than a view port long and that html doesn’t necessarily have a detectable bottom of the page. It doesn’t really work to absolutely position a footer at the bottom of a page if you’re going to have long pages and short ones. On short pages the footer only goes to the bottom with absolute or fixed positioning. On long pages the footer automatically goes to the bottom unless it’s absolutely positioned, then it hangs up a bit while the content goes behind it. Ugly! So I had to redesign my footer so that it would look ok at the bottom of the content even if it’s not at the bottom of the page.
I think I might port the new design to WordPress for my blog and it can be matching.
This weekend we have also watched some He-Man. Remember that cartoon? I thought it was coolest when I was a kid. Lots of people I know thought so too. Inevitably it’s cheesy as cheddar. I didn’t remember that it has morals to each story. At the end one of the characters says “In today’s story we saw…” So far the morals have included “Don’t talk to strangers” and “You can achieve stuff if you have confidence in yourself”.

he-man and skeletor! use to love that cartoon! had the action figure too. why were you watching he-man?
The Foo says
what is that envelope thing underneath your date for? just curious.

Heh, we were watching He-Man because we went to dinner at a friend’s place and he had the first half of the first season on DVD so we borrowed them.
I believe the little envelope indicates that you subscribed to the comments.
