Saw this story just now. William French Anderson “Father of Gene Therapy” and potentially a great man. Biochemist, professor, pioneer in gene therapy, fifth-grade black belt in tae-kwan-do was convicted of molesting the child of a colleague over several years.
This is sad and it makes me wonder if there is no such thing as a great and good person. Does everyone have to even out to be a kind of average person? His greatness in biochemistry is brought down by his pedophilia. Hitler, while intelligent, a great speaker, a commanding ruler, was a mass murderer. Perhaps it is better to impact one person’s life in a good way rather than run the risk of being evil in some way. Or maybe this whole good balancing evil thing is a crock.
