Was talking to Mum on the phone when I remembered just how bizarre my manicure experience was. It wasn’t unpleasant and I totally appreciated getting one (thanks Hez!). I love my shiny nails at the moment.
That being said, I was beginning to wonder if the girl doing my nails knew how to speak English, all she said was some random asian language called out to goodness-knows-who; she didn’t say anything to me until she started banging on her head with the heel of her hand . At which point she said, “Headache.” I made some sympathetic noises and thought to myself, “Yeah, banging your head will help?!”. When it was all done I was moved to the UV counter where you stick your hands and/or feet if you had them done under the counter to dry. I was left there! I’d never had a manicure before, wasn’t given a time to wait and just sat there while the head-banging girl went to give someone a pedicure. Eventually I decided my nails were dry, confirmed with a more friendly guy that I could leave and I went.
I realise it sucks to breath in nail polish and acetone all day and it’s not the most stimulating job but heck, a smile, a “hello”, is it that difficult?
