You might have noticed that things look a little different, and maybe a bit raw around here.
I have decided to strip things back and build up from almost scratch, in real time. Yep! I’m going to make my changes and experiment right on my site for the world to see.
Why? Actually I’m not really sure. It has something to do with how much I love WordPress right now, and a desire to use it more and be be involved in the community a bit more.
How will this venture do that? Maybe it will give people a chance to comment on the progress of the site and make suggestions, which you are welcome to do. Perhaps it will give me time to take inspiration from different sources, read more blogs, and learn some new things. It might inspire me to post more, which is something I’ve been meaning to do for a while (forever?!). You might think that paring back the design might make me intent on designing rather than writing, but I think by allowing my blog to be a bit naked for a while I won’t feel that pressure to get the design finished and ready for the world. I can just spend a bit more time with WordPress in general; it can be a work in progress while I do other things like write and go to WordCamp!
Heck yes! I’m pretty excited. In part because WordPress is great and getting better, also partly because I’ve never been to Melbourne before.
In other (somewhat related) news, over the past few months I have been teaching WordPress courses for a training company in Sydney. There can be between 1 and 8 people in a one-day class and I really enjoy it! I love being part of people learning about how great WordPress is! And their questions give me an opportunity to explore WordPress further, which has been bril!
It’s quite likely that my most recent Thesis child theme will be available in my store this week, and any other previous skins, if I have time to pull them together.

So many subjects to cover.
I am most interested in your blog tagline: “Website of photography loving, mac-using, Christian molecular biology graduate working in web design.” It’s the “Christian molecular biology graduate” part that caught my attention. I am a devout traditional Eastern Orthodox Christian; thus my interest. I must say I have never run across anyone who claimed to be a “Christian molecular.biology graduate.” I am not troubled by the idea, just wondering what that is. While I don’t pretend to know much about molecular biology, I still feel I am entitled to say I have never understood why people, who do not follow Christ or even hate those do, should think that God and molecular biology don’t get along well together.
I have recently noticed a marked softening of your persona. Maybe I am crazy but you seem gentle and caring now than before. I like what I perceive as the newest version of you. The older version did not drive me away; I have been following you a long time, but the new one seems better. Of course I realize that none of this is any of my business according to the newly politically correct universe statist leftest have been foisting upon the world. But, what can I say; I am a Christian who cares.
You mentioned you have a new Thesis child theme coming out soon. I thought you gave up on Thesis in favor of Genesis. Just wondering; not jabbing.

Hey Lawrence!
Thanks for your comments 🙂
Yeah, the tagline always gets people! The Christian part and the molecular biology part are not actually related; I’m a Christian and I studied biology. I think it’s a good witness that it’s okay to believe in God and like science too. Although sometimes people do ask what that is, if it’s some weird religion (not that I think that you thought that). Maybe I should rephrase it 😛
I don’t think I am more gentle than I was before, but maybe I am presenting myself better, or truer than before? Not sure. I’m glad that I seem friendlier anyway! And I appreciate your care.
At the moment I’m not abandoning anything. I have been getting a lot more involved in the local WordPress community over the last year and that has led to different job opportunities and a broadening of my work. So while I am experimenting with Genesis on my site and using it for a couple of client projects, I’m not leaving the Thesis field entirely. I’ve also used a couple of Elegant Themes for recent projects, and even Twenty Twelve for another. I just love WordPress stuff in general!

Hiya Kristarella,
Oh, I don’t know; i think your tagline says what you mean. I am the dummy who misinterpreted it. Maybe “Website of photography loving, mac-using, Christian and a molecular biology graduate working in web design.” might be less likely to trip-up a dummy like me.
I said it better than I did. You are showing yourself in a better light. Frankly, I like it that you are clearly, at the same time, a good, clever, feminine woman and a strong person. I have a deeply held opinion that men and women have differing strengths which translates into their being exactly equal. If either sex has a slight edge though, it is women. Sorry, this is not the time for me to go into all of that. That said,it will not hurt my feelings if you delete some or all of what I have said in the reply comment.
I don’t suppose you to be the type person who abandons something without good reason. .
kristarella says
Nah, I definitely think an “and” in there would reduce confusion for a lot of people!
Actually I totally agree. Men and women are different, of equal value and worth, but generally different strengths and weaknesses and life roles.
If I were to abandon Thesis I think there are good reasons to do so, but I’m still keen to see where it goes. And I owe Thesis and Chris Pearson a lot for facilitating my learning of WordPress, themes, HTML, CSS, PHP and igniting my business.
Lawrence S. Miller says
Good, an ‘and” should do it.
If I can find the time, I will round up some stuff I had occasion to write on the equality of the sexes. Finding the time may be a chore for a while, but do it, I will. I’ll will send it through your Contact link on this website.I think you will appreciate what I said.
I am glad you are sticking with Thesis and Chris Pearson to some extent in deference to what you consider you owe them for what they freely did for you.
It is 23:33 here and I am going to lay me down to sleep, while praying the Lord my soul to keep.
I guess your husband knows he is a fortunate man.
Cheers.

I was searching for free thesis 2.0 skin and found your blog. Was shocked seeing you use Genesis since you’ve released many skins before. Welcome to Genesis 😀
