Man, I would love to get me one of these! If it were mostly home use I’d want a Macbook Pro but I’d really like to take a computer to uni with me, then again I wouldn’t buy a computer for mostly home use because I have my Ubuntu box. The Macbook is smaller, 13″, and slightly lighter than the Pro. Every half-kilo makes a difference when you have to carry your bag to, from and around uni. I have so much down time in between classes, it would be way better to have my own computer rather than try to get a turn on the very limited uni computers. Every year they add a few computers, but several more classes decide to book up the computer labs. They even come and kick you out when they’re not on the booking sheet.
I don’t need 80GB hard disk, if I could save a few bucks by getting the 60GB with an upgrade of 1GB ram and a super drive I would, but the 60GB/1.83Hz version only comes with the combo drive (no burning DVDs and CDs). Still, hubby’s computer has the super drive, I could just get him to do that stuff. We also have a storage box that has a DVD/CD burner, perhaps I could learn how to use that. With a USB key I’d don’t think I’d actually need to burn discs very often anyway.
I love some of the Mac programs, Dashboard, Frontrow, iMovie and iDVD, they’re so cool! They just work, unlike the Windows and Linux equivalents. Well, Linux might have decent media players (VLC is a sweet cross-platform program) and movie makers (haven’t tried any) but it certainly doesn’t have a nice Dashboard type program.
Hmm, that would be sweet… I’m not getting too excited about it though, I’ll wait for a little while and see. Uni doesn’t start until the end of Feb 🙂
