My computer woes continue. It’s not just me being lazy now. Not only does my computer not wake up from hibernation but it doesn’t wake up from stand by nor does it boot up when I’ve shut it down properly. It gets stuck at the Windows XP screen with the scrolling bar; the bar stop scrolling and the whole thing doesn’t do anything. In every case I have to press the restart button and then it comes back on. When it’s on it seems to function fine.
I’m very worried about my beloved computer. Well maybe worried isn’t the word but I want to get it fixed and I do try to take care of it, these things need a lot of TLC given Windows’ volatility.
I might be destined for a full clean up and reinstall of everything on my computer. It’s so sad, but in a way it’s not because I’ve been meaning to back-up most of my files to another hard disk we have and this will be the prime opportunity. I’ll also be sure to get rid of any poo-poo-spy-ware type stuff that’s been evading my checks. Unfortunately the disks for some of the programs I use a lot, mainly Corel Photoshop, are at my parents’ place.
If anyone has any tips for all this let me know!

It seems like we had something like that on an older computer of ours a couple of years back, and my husband did the dreaded C:/Format. I hate when my computer won’t behave ( >:(

Looks like it is time to backup and do a fresh install. Otherwise, there is always the other option – the “throw on the ground and stomp on computer” option |)

Haha, I could do that. It hasn’t made me that upset yet though, I’m still in a sane enough frame of mind to not want to damage my hardware 😛
I think I will do a fresh install. I’ve backed up pretty much everything now – yay for networked computers! Dad suggested I disable all the power saving options and put them back on one by one, but given that I thought the problem was fixed after hibernating for a couple of minutes it would need longer shut downs to know for sure. I think a format and/or reinstall would be quicker. It’s just sad that I have to come to work, thus losing precious fixing computer time 😀
