Thirteen things about my job and workplace.
1. It’s really cold! The air conditioning is turned way up. So today we are freezing our butts off at the moment, but in summer the air-con breaks down because it’s too hot. We just tried to play with a thermostat that I found. Is it supposed to hiss? 2. Mel needed to make urea for a protein assay. The solution is endothermic (I think) and forms crystals when left for a few days. They’re pretty. 3. We always take a coffee break between 10 and 11. It helps us survive the day. When it’s cold in here, like today, we need an afternoon hot drink too! 4. Three of us have iPod nanos. I first had my crap old mp3 player, Mel has a Samsung one and Yvonne had some generic silver one. Then I got my iPod, Daz got one because he spent alot of money with a certain company, then Yvonne liked the look of them and bought one for herself. 5. We have a radio/cassette deck but the radio stations speak too much and who has cassette tapes these days? Some people who take care of their stuff do but all my tapes are either warped or retro and my tape players are broken too. 6. Nearly everyday I work with ethidium bromide which is a possible carcingogen… I wonder if I’ll get cancer. 7. My name is on Sean’s paper because I did all the genotyping! 8. I keep getting asked about my honours project and doing a PhD. I’ve only just started 3rd year and I’m taking a semester off! By the time I get around to those things the lab will probably have changed a bit. 9. The computers are not very good. They’re nearly all macs. I’m okay with macs, the new ones are good, the one I have is not new! The network connection is so slow! I don’t know if that’s the computer’s or the network’s fault. 10. When we leave our cups on the bench in the coffee room they get put in strange places, like the drawer, wouldn’t you put a cup in the cupboard? Even when I wipe up my stuff and put it neatly away it sometimes gets moved. When I came back from being sick I thought someone had stolen my stuff. 11. Today I’ve been doing a stocktake of the chemicals 😡 12. The chair that I’m sitting on is not good for the back and my bottom hurts 🙁 13. This is by far the best job I’ve had yet. The only downside is that it takes over an hour to get here.Put your Thursday Thirteen link here. |

I can relate to #1. At my workplace, the corporate bosses decided to lower the thermostat over the winter to save some dough. Of course, the upside is that when the customers get cold, they go into our cafe and buy some coffee! (I work for one of the two big box bookstores in the US.) They just don’t mind freezing the employees! hahaha.

I don’t like extremes so I really can’t stand too much air conditioning… And I don’t like when my things are placed somewhere else. No, I wouldn’t place a cup/mug in a drawer! Happy Thursday, my TT is up!

I could use a new chair to sit on while I’m at my computer… but never do anything about it.
I also do not like going shopping, in an office or anywhere they have teh AC much too cold LOL
