I failed at my goal to avoid the shops at all costs on the weekends before Christmas. I had to pop in for some supper for church tonight. Thankfully it didn’t take me too long to find a park this time and I wasn’t in a great hurry, just anxious to not be there. I also bought some lights so now I’ve decorated my Christmas tree!
It’s a nice little tree that my mother-in-law gave me. It’s about waist high, artificial of course. I know pine trees are lovely but I can’t deal with the cost and the mess, plus it’s summer here so they tend to droop. She gave it to me because it had light-up fibre optic tendrils that no longer work. I suspect a capacitor or something in the base of the tree has died but I’m happy without those because I got to buy lights and it’s still a very full and green tree. I unplugged the portable phone to check whether the lights work but I’ll have to wait for hubby to come home to plug it in for good. There needs to be some rearranging of power boards.
Part of me thinks that decorations are silly. I had a bit of a rant about trees last year. Please excuse any retarded sentences like “My conclusions on whether one should have a Christmas tree or not are inconclusive.” I don’t know whether I was trying to contradict myself or what. Another part of me likes the decorations, they’re pretty and happy and don’t necessarily remind us of Jesus, but they remind us of holidays and family and food. Lights are just nice and pretty and I think any excuse to use them will do.
I hope to take a photo of my tree when it’s lit up and the house across the street too. I might save them for Christmas to put on my photoblog though… I shall see.
Happy decorating!
The house across the street looks AMAZING (apart from the overdose of santa). Their electricity bill must be massive! I kind of wish my house was not a battle axe so I could go nuts for the neighbours! It seems pointless when it’s up a driveway. I would have nothing to do with santa though, just lights.
Office Space is so good. I must have seen it dozens of times. It reminds me of Dan.
Yeah, what hez said. We drove past that house last night, and its like daytime there, just all different colors. Pretty impressive
