Wooden yarn swift

1 January 2018 by kristarella Leave a Comment

These holidays I took advantage of my husband’s new woodworking hobby to make a better yarn swift! My previous one was cobbled together from pieces found at Bunnings (hardware store) and it worked okay, but seemed to get worse with each use. The wing nut on the top would keep tightening down and locking the […]

Grindelwald, Switzerland

7 July 2017 by kristarella 1 Comment

After WCEU, I took the opportunity to visit my cousin who is living in Switzerland for the summer. Not far from where she lives is a town called Grindelwald and up the mountain from there, Pfingstegg. As it happens, our grandparents visited there about 40 years ago, so we decided to try to find all […]

I liked having it before the conference this time, rather than afterwards, which was the case last year. This venue is […]

Leavin’ on a jetplane (to WCEU)

12 June 2017 by kristarella Leave a Comment

Woot! WordCamp Europe (WCEU) is just a few days away; and as I write I am in the airport lounge doing some work, enjoying some dessert, and thinking about WordCamp. I love WordCamps in general for a number of reasons. In no particular order some of those are: learning teaching amazing community swag inspiration community […]

No medals for me, but I thought I did an excellent performance of Bassai dai, so I can’t ask more from myself than that 🖤

Today I went to the Steve McCurry Icons exhibit: i Today I went to the Steve McCurry Icons exhibit: iconic photos by a photo journalist spanning over 40 years. It was beautiful and moving. It is being shown in Wharf 2/3 at Dawes Point (East of Circular Quay), and the building has been refurbished wonderfully: a gorgeous juxtaposition of glass, mirrors, and metal with the original wood. It was an excellent location for this exhibit, which showed so many extraordinary events, but also what is ordinary across several cultures, and what makes us all the same as humans.I really liked how the exhibit told related stories, sometimes from the same locations, sometimes across countries.Thank you @stevemccurryofficial @stevemccurryicons for an amazing display!#stevemccurryicons #photography #photographyexhibition
Saw @steph.t.gray in Les Mis this afternoon! Lovel Saw @steph.t.gray in Les Mis this afternoon! Lovely to spend the afternoon with Karen and Jo, and do something a bit different. I’ve never seen Les Mis before, but have heard some of the songs. Éponine’s On My Own in this production was much better than what I’ve seen on YouTube; I really liked it. The set design was really clever and the performances and choreography great too.
I’ve just left Mark at his second day of daycare I’ve just left Mark at his second day of daycare and it was harder than last week. He probably remembered I was going to go, and I also tried to say goodbye, whereas last week I snuck off while he was distracted. He was crying, and I feel awful. I hope he’s stopped crying now (he usually would have in crèche or with a babysitter). So here’s a bit of a dump of recent photos reminding me that he’s usually pretty happy 🥰#marksymonds
