At work we need to wear protective equipment in the lab – lab coats, gloves, sometimes it’s to protect the tests from us but often it’s to protect us from the chemicals. Particularly in the gel electrophoresis room. I fond it strange that we do all this and then I see insects scurrying around without any protective gear on. Are we making ourselves a fleet of genetically mutated insects? I suspect most of them die before they make it out of the lab, whether naturally or by squashing, but I wonder if some make it out and start breeding their own super-species of insect. Of course not all mutations are to the benefit of the creature, more often than not severe mutations cause something to get sicker and probably die. Maybe that’s why the flies are getting slower every year.
I’m sleepy today. :tired: Hubby wanted to watch JAG at 11pm last night, I obliged because I didn’t think he’d be able to sleep if we didn’t. I had a big strong coffee at morning tea, I think it gave me a kick for an hour or so but I’m starting to tumble now. It could also be due to me having to transfer about seven boxes of mice, I’m allergic to them and a sniffly nose makes me very groggy.
I started making a new blog template yesterday. Not that I don’t like this one but I might install a new one for the new year. I haven’t started coding it, just drawing the background images. I find Inkscape really useful for making mock-ups of sites and getting the placement of things right. It saves a lot of time in the coding if you have a big picture and then you know just what size your images are and just how much space you need for each section. It’s also cool for just drawing the stuff you want to use, such clean lines!
I like Torchwood, I think it’s well done and they seem to be revealing information at an appropriate rate. The thing is, it’s always so sad. At the end of the last few episodes there hasn’t been happy endings, the episode storyline may technically be resolved but the characters are left feeling sad or confused or afraid, so it doesn’t have that satisfaction that usually accompanies the resolution. I hope the mood starts to pick up a little bit. Dr Who is back on next week! Yaaaaaaay!
Ugh, I feel sick. Can I please go home to bed?
